About the event

Take a journey through the streets of Transcona as we uncover its offbeat stories and hidden histories. From bootlegging and bank robberies to missing persons and a mysterious gargoyle, this tour has it all! Please note: This walking tour explores historical events that include themes such as robberies, Prohibition and bootlegging, disappearances, murders, and prostitution. Some participants may find certain stories unsettling.

The tour is approx. 1 hour and 15 minutes, and covers a distance of 2 km. The tour starts and ends at the Transcona Museum (141 Regent Avenue West).

The tours wind through Downtown Transcona and some residential areas along sidewalks, alleyways, and parking lots. Pavement and gravel may be uneven. We cross streets that do not have lights or signals to stop traffic. There are a few benches along the tour. The main street in Transcona is busy and loud at times. The tour will be delivered…

The Transcona Museum is located on ancestral lands, on Treaty One Territory. These lands are the National Homeland of the Red River Métis. Our drinking water is sourced from Shoal Lake 40 First Nation. We respect the Treaties made on these territories, acknowledge the harms and mistakes of the past, and dedicate ourselves to moving forward in partnership with Indigenous communities in a spirit of reconciliation and collaboration.

The Transcona Museum gratefully acknowledges the City of Winnipeg's ongoing support of museum operations and facility maintenance.
